Plan the document before arranging pages
Make a note of the boundaries you want before opening the export options. A chapter heading printed as page 1 may be output page 7 after a cover and contents pages. Decide whether the recipient needs one combined selection or separate chapter files. TruePage splits by pages, not by a guaranteed file-size target; inspect the resulting sizes when a portal has limits.
Choose extraction or splitting
Extraction makes one PDF containing the wanted pages. Splitting makes several PDFs. Both use current output positions starting at 1, not page numbers printed in the document or original source page numbers.
For a six-page arrangement, 1-3, 5 means output pages 1, 2, 3 and 5. Use ordinary digits, commas and hyphens as shown, even when the interface uses another language. Spaces around numbers are allowed; reversed ranges, empty ranges, zero and positions beyond the arrangement are invalid.
Extract selected pages or ranges
- Select the pages you want, then choose Extract pages.
- Keep Selected pages to export that selection. An empty selection must be corrected before continuing.
- Alternatively, choose Extract by ranges and enter a range such as
1-3, 5. - Enter the filename, choose the destination and check the output preview.
- Export, then open the new PDF and verify the page count and sequence.
Extraction combines ranges in workspace order, without repeating the same occurrence. For example, 4-5, 2-4 extracts pages 2, 3, 4, 5, in that order. A duplicated page occurrence remains distinct and can still appear in the extracted output.
Split by entered ranges
Choose Split PDF and select Split by ranges. Each comma-separated range produces one PDF, in the order you typed the ranges.
For example, 1-2, 5, 3-4 produces three files: the first contains pages 1–2, the second page 5, and the third pages 3–4. Overlaps are intentional: 1-3, 3-5 puts page 3 in both resulting PDFs.
Use section-{n} for easy-to-read sequential filenames. Check every previewed name and output count before confirming. These rules differ from extraction, which combines and deduplicates selected occurrences.
Split every page or every N pages
One PDF per page produces one PDF per output page. Split every N pages groups consecutive pages according to Pages per PDF, which must be a positive whole number.
For seven arranged pages and a value of 3, the result has three PDFs containing 1–3, 4–6 and 7. The final group can be shorter; it is not padded with blank pages. A value larger than the total creates one group containing all pages.
Verify the batch
Check requested file count, filenames, folder and any collision decisions. Keep both preserves existing files; Replace concerns only the explicitly reviewed output batch. Originals remain protected.
Open each file when the split boundaries matter. If a batch is canceled or interrupted after some outputs were published, those files remain. Inspect the saved-file count before trying again; do not assume there are no results because the whole batch did not finish.
Read exporting PDFs for destination handling and source recovery if an original changes while you work.
What stays local
Document processing runs in TruePage and its local worker processes. No TruePage account or document upload is required. Installing the app, Store updates, opening the website and other Windows services are separate activities.
Windows, backup tools and cloud-synced folders follow their own policies. Saving an output in a synchronized folder may cause that software to upload it. A local-processing statement is not a promise that the entire PC makes no network requests.
Protected-source exports can create unprotected PDFs, images or ZIP files after explicit acknowledgement. Choose destinations and sharing methods appropriate for those results. The workspace itself is not a permanent project archive: export what you need before closing.

TruePage does not provide OCR, existing-text editing, redaction or signatures. Rewriting a signed PDF does not preserve its valid signature status. Keep originals and follow operation-specific warnings. See the usage guide for complete procedures and limitations.
