Managing and recovering sources
Locate moved files, reload changed contents and understand which recovery actions preserve edits and history.
Screenshots show the real app with sample documents. Select an image to inspect the original capture.
Keep track of originals
The workspace refers to source files. Keeping them in a stable, accessible folder avoids interruptions. A page thumbnail may remain visible after its source moves or changes, but export still checks the underlying file.
Open Source files to see the contributing files. Selecting a source selects its page occurrences. Its actions are available from the source controls or context menu.
Add another copy adds another copy of that source’s pages to the arrangement. Remove source removes the source and its contributed pages from the workspace, with confirmation when pages would be removed. Neither action deletes the original file from disk.
Locate a moved, unchanged file
- Select the affected source.
- Choose Locate replacement.
- Select the source at its new location, or an unchanged copy of it.
- Wait for the app to validate the replacement.
- Check the recovery status and inspect a page before exporting again.
If the replacement contains the same data, TruePage relocates the source while preserving page edits, selection and Undo/Redo history. A renamed file can qualify; a matching filename alone is not sufficient. The app compares contents, not just the label shown in the list.
Canceling the picker or a recovery confirmation leaves the arrangement unchanged.
Reload changed contents
If a source was edited by another program, choose Reload source to read its current contents, or locate a different file. TruePage validates the candidate before offering to replace the source contents.
Read the warning before confirming. Reloading changed contents discards that source’s page edits, duplicates and deletions and clears Undo and Redo for the entire workspace. Other sources retain their current arrangement, but their earlier edits can no longer be undone through the cleared history.
If you need to preserve the old arrangement, cancel and locate an unchanged copy instead. Replacing the source with fresh contents is not equivalent to updating a thumbnail.
Recover after a failed export
A source-related export error can offer Reload source, Locate replacement or Cancel. Choose the action that matches what happened: locate for a moved unchanged file, reload when you intentionally want changed contents.
For locked sources, first close the program that is writing or exclusively holding the file, then retry. For missing files, restore them or locate a readable copy. Do not replace a missing PDF with an image or an unrelated document merely to clear a warning.
Password-protected replacements may need authentication. An unsupported or invalid replacement is rejected rather than silently changing the workspace.
Check before continuing
After recovery, verify source identity, page count, page order and any selection. A changed-content reload can alter how many pages exist, so previous output ranges may no longer describe the intended result.
If a language restart restores an arrangement but reports sources needing attention, use these same actions. The restart handoff is not a permanent backup of source documents.
Continue with exporting PDFs or troubleshooting for worker, destination and interrupted-output problems.
